This is a 3D virtual model I've created with 3Ds Max of a rolling mill steam engine one of 4 similar mills built in Sheffield by the Davy Brothers Ltd in 1905, this rolling mill engine worked through two World Wars rolling armour plated steel for tanks, and battleships at Grimsthorp steel work in Sheffield.

In 1957 the mill was then transferred to the River Don steel works part of the English Steel Corporation, and rolled plates of steel for North sea Oil rigs, and the calder hall nuclear power station, a team of 14 men were needed to operate the mill and in it's final years the mill only operated at weekends when orders were available.

In 1978 the mill finely closed and was due to be scrapped, but thankfully It was saved, and with a Mammoth task of restoration work which took over a period of 3 years, the engine was restored to It's original glory and can be seen today still in operation at the Kelham Island Industrial Museum in Sheffield It's one of the largest and at 12,000 horse power probably the most powerful working steam engine in existence today.
